1-Year Arabic & Islamic Studies Program
Suffah Roots is Jamia Suffah’s 1-Year Arabic and Islamic Studies Program, designed to give students a strong foundation in Arabic, Fiqh, Tafsīr, Ḥadīth, ʿAqīdah, adab, and sacred learning.
Through weekly classes and practical workshops, students build the knowledge, discipline, and confidence needed to grow in their Deen.

Program Overview
Suffah Roots gives students a clear and organized introduction to the essential sciences of Islam. It is ideal for students, working adults, young professionals, and community members who want to study Deen seriously while managing their weekly responsibilities.
The program combines foundational Arabic, practical Fiqh, Qur’anic understanding, Ḥadīth, ʿAqīdah, and special workshops to help students grow in knowledge, worship, character, and confidence.
How the Program Is Structured
Classes are divided into three main categories, giving students a balanced learning experience throughout the year.
Core Classes
Weekly foundational classes in Arabic Syntax, Arabic Morphology, and Fiqh of ʿIbādah.
Secondary Classes
Semester-based subjects such as Tafsīr, Ḥadīth, and ʿAqīdah that expand the student’s understanding.
Workshops & Seminars
Practical and interactive sessions covering adab, Imamat, Tajwīd, Sīrah, and Ḥadīth terminology.
Core Classes
These classes run weekly throughout the year and form the foundation of the program.
Arabic Syntax — Naḥw
Students learn Arabic sentence structure, grammar rules, and the tools needed to begin understanding Arabic texts with accuracy.
Arabic Morphology — Ṣarf
Students study Arabic word patterns, roots, verb forms, and vocabulary development to strengthen their ability to recognize and analyze words.
Fiqh of ʿIbādah
Students learn practical rulings related to purification, ṣalāh, worship, and daily religious responsibilities.
Secondary Classes
Secondary classes are divided by semester and allow students to study important Islamic sciences in a focused and accessible manner.
Tafsīr
Introduction to Qur’anic sciences and selected study of important sūrahs, including Sūrah al-Kahf, Sūrah al-Mulk, and Sūrah Yāsīn.
Ḥadīth
Study of selected ḥadīth collections, virtues of righteous actions, and Prophetic character through accessible texts and discussions.
ʿAqīdah
Students study foundational beliefs and key discussions that strengthen conviction, clarity, and confidence in Islam.
Workshops & Seminars
Workshops give students practical exposure to important areas of Islamic learning, leadership, worship, and service.
Etiquettes of a Seeker
Adab, sincerity, discipline, and respect for sacred knowledge.
Imamat Workshop
Practical training related to leading ṣalāh, community responsibilities, and masjid service.
Tajwīd Intensive
Focused Qur’an recitation training with attention to pronunciation, fluency, and correctness.
Sīrah Workshop
A focused study of the Prophetic journey and its lessons for life, faith, and community.
Ḥadīth Terminology
An introduction to basic terms and concepts used in the study of Ḥadīth sciences.
